Peter Silberberg
Thank you for considering me as a potential new member to the AMEN Exec.
I hope I can bring many contributions to this role. My background experience in Medical Education includes 6 years of work as an ME with North Coast GP Training, the last been as an Associate Director of Training. My role has included 2 main functions; the planning and delivering of educational content plus the management and coordination of other registrar business, such as registrar selection, allocation and remediation. I believe this gives me an excellent overview of the many facets of the ME roles that you all are performing today. I have been on the AMEN planning committee (we help co-ordinate the AMEN training days) for the last 2 years and would plan to resign from this role if elected on the AMEN executive.
My GP training was with Northern Territory GP Training, which was a fantastic learning journey. It included registrar positions in remote and rural Australia in Aboriginal health, as well as mainstream practices in Darwin. During that time I was an RLO and a NTGPE board member, which opened my eyes to the national components of registrar training. I graduated through the current RACGP exam system in 2006.
You can probably tell from this blurb so far, that I am passionate about GP Medical Education and I am a proud product of the current system. So why do I want to be on the AMEN Exec?
We all know and personally feel the new changes in GP training that are sweeping us along rather than consulting and respecting our expert opinions.
However with change comes opportunity. It’s this opportunity that I see the AMEN group reaching out to grasp with two strong hands and I want to help make this happen.
The opportunity to make your voice heard on a national level when it comes to creating the new registrar training model!
The opportunity to gain a seat at the negotiating table, as a representative body!
The opportunity to strengthen our existing ME national structure as a leader in Medical Education!
The opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of collegiality!
The opportunity to retain and foster the things that we believe are essential in GP training!
The opportunity to push the most important agenda; for policy makers to make decisions based on what’s right for GP training!
I believe the current AMEN exec has done a great job to date, and I would really love the opportunity to become an elected member to further its function and influence.
Thank you!
